'I'm Still Alive!' | Teen Injured in Colorado School Shooting Released From Hospital

Matthew Silverstone was shot twice while confronting the Evergreen High School shooter and has now been released after five weeks of treatment, officials said.

  • On Tuesday, Matthew Silverstone, an 18-year-old Evergreen High School student, was released from CommonSpirit St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood after being critically wounded in the Sept. 10 school shooting and is headed home to continue rehabilitation.
  • Authorities said the shooter had been radicalized online by watching violent videos and died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after the nine-minute attack.
  • After emergency surgeries, medical staff at St. Anthony Hospital said Matthew Silverstone’s heart stopped twice in the ambulance and he suffered chest and head gunshot wounds.
  • About 140 first responders and hospital staff held blue balloons and cheered Silverstone as he left St. Anthony Hospital, while his family thanked the community and said he can walk with assistance.
  • Five weeks after the Sept. 10 attack, the family called Matthew Silverstone's release `nothing short of miraculous`, and a 14-year-old other victim left the hospital on Oct. 2.
