Illegal fishing in areas with low surveillance, high threat to totoaba and vaquita marina
Despite security operations carried out by the authorities, Alejandro Olivera, representative in Mexico of the Center for Biological Diversity, noted that strong actions are required against the high illegal fishing in the Upper Gulf of California, after 16 of this month were seized on the coasts of San Felipe, Baja California, 72 totoabas dead and more than 9,000 meters of gillnets that threaten the sea vaquita and other species.
