Illegal border crossings remain historically low in June, drug seizures up
CBP said cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin and fentanyl seizures rose 49% from June 2024 even as southwest border apprehensions hit a record low.
- Record-Low border apprehensions occurred last month, according to CBP and The Border Patrol, with 31,626 illegal crossers apprehended nationwide, down more than 173,000 from June 2024.
- Apprehensions in California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas totaled 12,901 last month, representing a 96% decrease from the peak reported during the border crisis in December 2023.
- CBP agents seized 6,242 pounds of Cocaine last month, a 71% increase from May, alongside 1,072 pounds of fentanyl and 68 pounds of Heroin.
- Leadership and policy matter, said CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott, noting that "when laws are enforced, fewer people will break the law" under current enforcement efforts.
- While border crossings remain historically low, The Department of Homeland Security reports more than 24,200 UACs were sent to sponsors during fiscal 2025, down from prior years.
