Croydon Decathlon Closing as New Branch Announced at IKEA
IKEA Croydon will pilot a standalone 1,188 sqm Decathlon store with 5,000+ sports products, BuyBack trade-ins, and click-and-collect services to boost visits and monetize space.
- This spring, IKEA Croydon will open a 25,000 square metre store with a 1,188 square metre Decathlon unit inside, with its own entrance.
- Ingka is testing whether renting space to other brands can increase visits and monetise square metres as it invests more than 5 billion euros to revamp stores for value-driven shoppers.
- The unit will be a standalone shop with its own entrance inside IKEA at Valley Retail Park, Purley Way, offering 5,000 plus products and BuyBack scheme trade-ins plus click-and-collect.
- Exact opening and closure dates are yet to be announced, and the existing Decathlon branch on Purley Way will close when IKEA Croydon's new unit opens, leaving the large unit near Sainsbury's uncertain.
- As a first in the UK, this pilot brings a major international brand into an IKEA blue-box store, and Mr Javier Quinones said tenants were chosen for broad appeal and quality.
