- The Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia concluded its investigation into an Aug. 11, 2026, arrest by the Nelson Police Department, finding no connection between police actions and the youth's injuries.
- According to the report released Sept. 15, an NPD officer arrested an intoxicated, uncooperative youth around 11 p.m. on Hume Lane between Vernon and Baker.
- While in custody at NPD cells, the youth sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was assessed by Emergency Health Services before ambulance transport to a nearby hospital.
- The IIO, which investigates all officer-related incidents resulting in serious harm in British Columbia, reviewed police and jail records, video footage, and medical evidence during the probe.
- Following the review of all evidence, the investigation into the Nelson incident is now concluded, with the chief civilian director determining no connection existed between police conduct and the youth's injuries.
