- In this year's hunting season, 80 Fin whales were caught as of September 9, beneath the 150-whale quota; Iceland's interim government issued a five-year license in 2024 to its sole remaining Whaling company.
- Wendy Higgins, a Humane World spokeswoman, said there is "considerable political and public support for this bill to ban commercial whaling, and compelling ethical, veterinary, legal and Conservation reasons to hope it succeeds."
- While the moratorium permits indigenous groups in Alaska and Greenland to hunt whales for cultural needs, Japan remains isolated after withdrawing from the International Whaling Commission in 2019.
