BBL 2026-27: Finn Allen Signs with Melbourne Stars
The New Zealand opener reportedly agreed to a three-year AU$600,000 deal after a rule change removed Perth's retention option.
New Zealand opener Finn Allen has signed with the Melbourne Stars in a deal potentially marking the largest contract in Big Bash League history.
The BBL scrapped its overseas draft, removing Perth Scorchers' retention rights, while increased salary-cap room across the competition triggered a bidding war for the explosive batter.
Previously playing for the San Francisco Unicorns under current Stars coach Cameron White, Allen signed a three-year contract worth AU$600,000 for the first year.
This AU$600,000 salary exceeds current deals held by Stars captain Marcus Stoinis and allrounder Glenn Maxwell, sparking debate over the league's new contracting structure.
"I think all cricketers love playing at the MCG, so to be able to call that my home ground now is really exciting," Allen said.
New Zealand pacer Finn Allen has joined the Melbourne Stars in the BBL for a record ₹4 crore (AUD600,000), the biggest deal in the history of the Big Bash League. The addition has given the Stars a boost in their batting. However, the huge salaries being paid to foreign players has angered Australia's domestic players.
