Off-Duty Employee Arrested in Shooting Near ICE Detention Center in Colorado that Injured a Woman
Police said the off-duty employee fired a single shot after a protest confrontation, injuring one woman who is expected to survive.
On Thursday, July 16, 2026, Aurora Police arrested Brandon Booth, a 42-year-old employee of private prison firm GEO Group, after he allegedly shot a woman protesting outside the Aurora ICE Processing Center.
Employees were waiting in their vehicles along Nome Street, unable to enter the complex for work shifts due to the demonstration, which sparked a verbal confrontation with protesters.
After protesters took photos of vehicles and walked away, Booth retrieved a personally owned pistol and fired once, striking the woman in her lower body; police detained him in his vehicle a short distance away.
Booth faces charges of attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and felony menacing, while GEO Group confirmed he has been placed on unpaid administrative leave.
The Aurora ICE Processing Center has been a focal point for immigrant rights protests in Colorado since President Donald Trump took office for a second time last year.
