Ice Cream Recall Upgraded to Highest Risk Level over Listeria Concerns
The FDA said 1,122 units were distributed after tests found listeria monocytogenes, and no illnesses have been reported.
On November 3, the Food and Drug Administration upgraded the recall of Lidl Gelatelli Coffee & Vanilla Gelato to Class I after testing revealed potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
Lidl initiated a voluntary recall on October 16 after routine quality testing identified Listeria in a lab sample; the recall affects 1,122 pint containers distributed between July 19 and October 15, 2026.
The recalled lot 085261, with UPC 4 0564897 22458 and best-by date of March 26, 2028, was sold at Lidl stores in Washington D.C. and nine states: Delaware, Georgia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Virginia.
Customers should discard the product or return it to Lidl for a full refund. The FDA describes Listeria as a "remarkably tough organism" that can survive refrigeration.
Although no illnesses have been reported, Listeria "can be very serious for pregnant women, people older than 65 and people with weakened immune systems," according to Mayo Clinic, with symptoms often appearing within two weeks of exposure.
