Wife Shares Husband's Final Moments Before His Death in Florida Flooding
The father of four drowned after floodwaters trapped his truck, and officials said the storms killed two people as 19.75 inches of rain fell.
On Monday, floodwaters in Palm Bay, Florida, claimed the life of 34-year-old Joshua Bennett after his vehicle became submerged on San Filippo Drive during historic storms that deluged the region.
Historic storms fueled by this year's extreme El Niño weather cycle deluged Palm Bay with 19.75 inches of rain on Monday, creating dangerous flood conditions that experts warn could persist for months.
His wife, Stacy Petit Bennett, received a FaceTime call from Bennett describing his truck submerged in rising floodwaters; she called 911 and spent hours attempting to secure emergency help.
Authorities identified a second fatality on Tuesday: 78-year-old Archie Richards, found deceased in his vehicle at Richards Lane and Hall Road in Palm Bay.
Facing the loss of their primary provider, Bennett's family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to navigate the tragedy and facilitate the return of his remains to New Hampshire.
