Hyundai Announces Plans to Bring 3,000 New Jobs to Southeast Georgia with $2.7B Expansion
Hyundai's $2.7 billion expansion will increase production capacity by 200,000 units and create 3,000 jobs to support electric and hybrid vehicle manufacturing by 2028.
- Wednesday, Hyundai confirmed a $2.7 billion expansion of Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America in Ellabell, adding 200,000 units of capacity and 3,000 jobs by 2028.
- Despite an ICE immigration raid at Bryan County this month that detained over 300 South Korean citizens, Hyundai said it will proceed with its $2.7 billion expansion.
- Hyundai noted prior commitments including $12.6 billion in investments and 3,129 employees at Ellabell as it plans to produce 10 models in Georgia, up from two.
- Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp praised the move on Thursday, saying state and local governments offered $2.1 billion in tax breaks and incentives tied to the project, adding 10% to the $27.3 billion pledged in Georgia since 2018.
- Hyundai says the investment advances its 2030 targets by supporting the goal to produce 80% of U.S. cars domestically, increasing locally-sourced parts from 60% to 80%, and reinforcing 26,000 regional EV industry jobs.
