BRADFORD, WEST YORKSHIRE, JUL 22 – Habibur Masum tracked and stabbed his estranged wife 26 times in broad daylight after she fled abuse, receiving a life sentence with a minimum of 28 years, court records show.
- At Bradford Crown Court on Tuesday, Habibur Masum is to be sentenced after being convicted of murdering his wife, who he tracked to a refuge and fatally stabbed in broad daylight.
- During the trial, Masum's abusive behaviour, including holding his wife at knifepoint over a message, highlighted the motive.
- CCTV footage captured Ms Akter’s screams as Masum stabbed her at least 25 times, and he was later shown grinning while boarding a bus to escape.
- At Bradford Crown Court, Mr Justice Cotter described Masum as `violent, self-centred, jealous, controlling and coercive` before sentencing him to life with a minimum of 28 years.
- The Home Office will assess Masum’s deportation suitability 36 months before his minimum term, and Mr Justice Cotter warned refuges can offer limited protection against determined abusers.
