Man who murdered wife and hid body in freezer while contacting escorts jailed for life
He admitted a cover-up that included fake messages, bank withdrawals and escort searches before pleading guilty and receiving a minimum 22-year term.
On Friday, David Barraclough was jailed for life with a minimum term of 22 years and one month for murdering his wife, Carolann Barraclough, at their home in Horbury, Wakefield.
Barraclough killed Carolann with a hammer in February while their three children were present in the house, then bound her body with tape and stored it in a chest freezer.
Following the murder, the 46-year-old maintained an elaborate facade for nearly two weeks, using Carolann's phone and bank card to deceive relatives while seeking escort services.
Although Barraclough pleaded guilty on the trial's first day, he refused to enter the courtroom for sentencing, leaving Judge Andrew Stubbs KC to deliver remarks to an empty dock.
Judge Stubbs dismissed the defendant's abuse claims as a "web of lies," while Detective Inspector Tom Hilyer of West Yorkshire Police called him a "manipulative and calculating individual" who fabricated his defense.
