Bulgarian siblings sentenced for assaulting girls in Dundee
Ilia Belov received 18 months of supervision and 300 hours of unpaid work, while his sister was ordered to complete 180 hours.
On Friday, siblings Ilia Belov, 23, and Nadjedzha Belova, 20, were sentenced at Dundee Sheriff Court for assaulting young girls in Lochee. Belov received 18 months of supervision and 300 hours of unpaid work; Belova received 180 hours of unpaid work.
The incident began in August 2025 when Belov made sexual remarks to a 12-year-old girl walking toward a bus stop in Lochee. After being called a creep, he returned to confront the group and called his sister, who arrived shortly and assaulted a 13-year-old.
During the trial, the 12-year-old admitted pulling an axe and knife from her waistband after being assaulted. Sheriff Timothy Niven-Smith rejected Belov's self-defense claim, describing his account as "neither credible nor reliable."
Following the viral video, Elon Musk criticized the girl's arrest for "trying to defend herself," prompting First Minister John Swinney to accuse Musk of spreading "deliberate disinformation" to "stoke up fear and alarm."
Sheriff Niven-Smith emphasized that the victims sustained psychological trauma from the siblings' actions, imposing alternative sentences that "primarily considered rehabilitation" due to their age and lack of prior offenses.
