Abusive ex murdered woman after she began new relationship
The court heard Inglis became abusive after Hogg disclosed a new partner and later admitted killing her with a kitchen knife.
On Friday, Lee Inglis admitted murdering Stacey Hogg at her home in Hawick, Scottish Borders. The High Court in Edinburgh heard the 39-year-old killed the mother of three on June 25 after learning she had begun a new relationship.
The couple had a "turbulent" relationship that ended in 2024 after Inglis assaulted Stacey Hogg with a knife. He received a restriction of liberty order, which remained in effect at the time of the murder.
After learning of a new partner, Inglis sent "abusive and threatening" texts saying "you know what's coming." On June 25, he entered the home and struck Stacey Hogg repeatedly with a kitchen knife, inflicting "catastrophic" injuries.
Inglis told his mother, "Phone the police because I have just killed Stacey." Police Scotland officers found the victim unresponsive; Detective Inspector Ross Duthie said, "Our thoughts remain with Stacey's family and friends."
Lord Ewing deferred sentencing until November 5 at the High Court in Edinburgh pending a criminal justice social work report. He told Inglis, "There is only one sentence that can be imposed for murder, that of life imprisonment.
