Hurricane Remnants Could Bring Stormy Weather to UK Next Week
Meteorologist Laura Tobin said the storm could become a low-pressure system and bring heavy rain, strong gales and disruptive travel to Britain.
A hurricane barrelling towards the American Gulf Coast is expected to strengthen, with Meteorologist Laura Tobin warning its remnants will bring stormy conditions to Britain by the middle of next week.
During Good Morning Britain, Tobin explained that El Nino suppresses Atlantic hurricane activity while increasing Pacific storms, describing the phenomenon as a 'double edged sword' when questioned by Kate Garraway.
"Now at the moment it is a category two hurricane," Tobin explained, with the storm moving through tropical waters and expected to make landfall overnight or Saturday morning.
As the cyclone tracks up the seaboard through the weekend, it is forecast to transition into an extratropical low and be swept across the Atlantic Ocean by high-altitude winds.
When tropical cyclones merge with mid-latitude airflows, they inject heat and moisture into the North Atlantic; Tobin explained this process triggers heavy rain and strong gales across Britain.
