Hungary to stop issuing worker visas to people from three countries starting Friday
Hungary stopped issuing worker visas to citizens of the Philippines, Georgia, and Armenia starting June 5 as part of overhauling its guest worker system.
The new rules allow current foreign workers to apply for permit extensions, while new visa applications from these countries are no longer accepted.
The government aims to protect Hungarian workers and prevent wage reductions potentially caused by increased foreign labor supply.
Some businesses warn that halting guest worker inflow may worsen labor shortages, disrupt operations, and impact economic growth.
