The Hungarian government plunged thousands of Transcarpathians fleeing war into precariousness last year by withdrawing housing benefits on flimsy grounds. The “father” of the measure, Government Commissioner Norbert Pál, has now been given a month to do his job – i.e. to individually investigate the social situation and opportunities of those affected, and make decisions in light of this.
