Hungary and Slovakia are on the verge of a historic agreement. A decades-long dispute over the Bős-Nagymaros dam system could be over. The Hungarian government will permanently abandon the Nagymaros power plant, in exchange for a rearrangement of the Danube's water distribution and a long-term energy agreement.
There will be no dam in Nagymaros, it is expected that the governments of Hungary and Slovakia will be able to agree on this. The parties have been negotiating for a long time, and now Energy Minister Csaba Lantos and Deputy Minister Gábor Czepek held a briefing on Friday in the Danube Bend. It is expected that a full agreement may be reached this year.
