Huda Beauty Faces Boycott After Founder Shares Contested Iran Regime Video
Thousands joined a boycott after Huda Kattan reposted a video seen as regime propaganda amid Iran’s crackdown that reportedly killed over 36,500 protesters, activists said.
On Jan. 28, 2026, Huda Kattan reposted a TRT World clip showing a pro-government protester burning images of Reza Pahlavi, sparking a fast-moving boycott on Instagram and TikTok.
Iran nationwide protests began late December 2025, with Iranian NGOs saying more than 36,500 people have been killed, and critics said Kattan's platform of around 54 million followers amplified regime narratives.
After removing the clip, Kattan said she opposed foreign intervention and felt insufficiently informed to criticize the regime, citing Iraq and saying she would refrain from further comment.
Videos showed customers destroying products and urging boycotts, while activists in the Iranian diaspora pushed retailers such as Sephora, which saw some stores unusually empty this past week.
Family reactions ranged from defense to public distancing, with Mona Kattan unfollowing her sister and reposting content supporting Iranians, risking long-term trust erosion, experts say.
