Climate migration: a further impact of economic inequalities

Global warming is already more than a threat and at the same time an alteration of the climate and extreme phenomena, it also poses ever stronger and recurring natural disasters. All this threatens not only the lives of people, but also their means to survive and even the economy of entire regions.

How will climate change impact migration in Africa?

Population displacement may become an obvious adaptation margin to climate change in vulnerable regions like sub-Saharan Africa. How large will future climate-induced migration flows be? What could the associated welfare losses be, and what can policymakers do to moderate these effects? Market integration, through trade and migration liberalisation, could play an important role in mitigating these effects.
