The main Turkish opposition party, the People's Republican (CHP), expelled Gürsel Tekin, who was appointed yesterday by a court to lead the provincial section of Istanbul. This was announced by the current leader of the party, Ozgur Özel. The decision arrived a few hours after a court suspended the results of the Congress of the CHP in Istanbul in 2023 on the basis of prefabricated accusations of buying votes and other irregularities.
After a wave of arrests, the state-run judiciary wants to remove the board of the largest opposition party.
