The polar vortex has been unstable for much of this winter. Its disruption in late January has brought deep depressions of Arctic air across the Northern Hemisphere. February will be no different. Forecast models show further weakening of the polar vortex, and even its complete collapse is in play.
Above the North Pole, the stratospheric polar vertebrae is unusually weak and split. Meteorologist Jan Schenk thinks a winter in March is possible.
