How a cargo ship lost its rudder and narrowly avoided grounding

BAY OF PLENTY, NEW ZEALAND, JUL 24 – The rudder detachment was caused by poor welding during 2021 dry dock maintenance in China, exposing ships with similar pintle assemblies to significant safety risks, TAIC found.
