House Democrats Reconvene Jan 6 Panel for Unofficial Fifth Anniversary Hearing
House Democrats hold an unofficial hearing focused on Trump-era pardons of rioters and election integrity threats, featuring testimonies from those affected by the Jan. 6 attack.
On Jan. 6, House Democrats will reconvene the Jan. 6 select committee in an unofficial hearing after House Republicans refused to agree to a formal session.
In a letter to House Democrats, Hakeem Jeffries said the hearing will highlight President Donald Trump's mass pardoning of Jan. 6 rioters and hear testimonies from people affected by the Jan. 6 riot.
The original Jan. 6 select committee staged high-profile hearings in summer 2022 that included two dissident Republicans, Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, who faced political consequences.
The dispute centers on competing narratives about Jan. 6 as Hakeem Jeffries, House Democratic Leader, accused far-right Republicans in Congress of trying to rewrite history while House Republicans refused a formal hearing.
According to Jeffries, the hearing will outline alleged threats to public safety from pardoned Jan. 6 rioters and the panel's prior criminal referrals, which yielded no prosecutions.
