Zohran Mamdani faces pushback over his story about a family member’s post-9/11 fears
- Days before Nov. 4, Democratic New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani was hit with complaints from the Coolidge Reagan Foundation alleging his campaign accepted illegal foreign contributions filed Tuesday with the U.S. Department of Justice and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's office.
- The filings say at least 161 contributions from Dubai, Australia, Turkey, France, Canada, Germany, totaling more than $12,000 between December 2024 and September 2025.
- The campaign responded that Mamdani's campaign has a compliance protocol to confirm donor eligibility, and some flagged donors may be U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents living abroad.
- Letters to prosecutors requested probes of possible Federal Election Campaign Act violations by the Coolidge Reagan Foundation and referred misdemeanors to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, while the campaign said it would issue refunds for impermissible donations.
- With early voting underway and Nov. 4 approaching, nearly 300,000 ballots have already been cast during the week-long early voting period that kicked off Saturday, raising stakes for the contest among Zohran Mamdani, former Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa.

The same sort of rubbish is happening with Zohran Mamdani: The “hijab-wearing ‘aunt” who feared for safety post-9/11” was actually his father’s cousin. So what? Brown and black immigrants almost never call a parent’s cousin a cousin. The children, Munya and Jessa, of my first cousin, Farayi, call me uncle; I…
