Hotels, restaurants in Bengaluru to remain open till 3.30 on FIFA World Cup semifinal and final match days
The relaxation follows an NRAI request and lets restaurants serve late-night crowds while officials say public safety and law and order will be maintained.
On Tuesday, Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh extended food service hours for hotels and restaurants until 3:30 a.m. on July 14, 15, and 19 to accommodate FIFA World Cup matches.
The National Restaurant Association of India requested the relaxation after noting that World Cup matches begin at 12:30 a.m., extending beyond Bengaluru's standard 1 a.m. closing time for establishments.
Karnataka Chief Minister Shivakumar authorized the extension, stating the decision prioritizes public safety and law and order while ensuring citizen convenience during the international tournament.
Restaurant owners anticipate increased footfall during screenings, with NRAI representatives noting that two matches scheduled for the weekend are expected to significantly benefit business operations.
The Bengaluru City Hotel Association is simultaneously lobbying for broader reforms, requesting government action on rising commercial LPG cylinder costs and proposed minimum wage increases affecting the industry.
