Hunt for Firework Thugs Who Attacked Firefighters as Flats Burned

Merseyside Police arrested a 14-year-old boy at around 7.20pm on Wednesday on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life after firefighters were attacked with fireworks in Huyton.
Responding crews found a third-floor balcony fire at Knowsley Heights, Primrose Drive, and firefighters and police officers were targeted with fireworks while extinguishing it.
Crews were alerted at 18.57 and on scene at 19.04 with five fire engines and an aerial appliance, while a female police officer and teenager were injured and fire engines' CCTV will aid police.
Chief Inspector Kevin Chatterton warned that police and fire services are working with the community to identify those involved and emphasized that 'we will not tolerate this disgraceful behaviour.'
Amid Bonfire Night pressures, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service handled almost 700 emergency calls while Police Scotland last week launched Operation Moonbeam and Firework Control Zones cover Glasgow and Edinburgh.
