10-Year-Old Who Left Home While Sleepwalking Found Deceased, Police Say
Police said the boy was known to sleepwalk, and crews used helicopters, drones and canines in a search involving about 100 responders.
A 10-year-old boy, Jackson Georgari, was found dead in a pond near Briarcliff Village on Thursday after going missing from his home at 1118 NW Vivon Road early that morning.
Family members reported that Jackson had a known history of sleepwalking and left his residence alone shortly after midnight on Thursday, walking a path familiar from his school bus rides.
KCFD sent roughly 100 personnel from multiple departments using K-9 units and drones across the area; Capt. Jake Becchina said "There's a fairly large pond down there. He was located by police officers who were searching that area in the water."
Fire crews immediately began resuscitation efforts but were unsuccessful; Becchina stated "Fire and rescue personnel immediately began resuscitation efforts but unfortunately he was declared deceased there at that location."
Police are treating the death as an active investigation with no immediate signs of foul play; the medical examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.
