- The ship was moved onto land at Ingalls for upgrades, shortly after arrival at Pascagoula where its Advanced Gun System was replaced with new missile tubes.
- The Zumwalt-class retains advanced propulsion and stealth features, including integrated electric propulsion and a tumblehome hull, while hypersonic weapons maneuver above Mach 5 and resist detection.
- The move positions the U.S. Navy toward long-range precision strike as part of a shift amid competition with China and Russia, with each destroyer carrying up to 12 hypersonic missiles.
