Highlights from the Tour de France in photos
Millions of people travel to the Tour de France each year, usually planning ahead, but three backpackers—Antonio, Teresana, and Federico—arrived there by accident during Stage 6 near Gavarnie-Gèdre, a scenic area in the Pyrenees with the tallest mainland France waterfall.
The Tour de France logistics require extensive road closures that blocked the backpackers' planned route and left them unable to leave the area as originally intended.
The backpackers were unaware the Tour de France was taking place, causing the local area to be crowded, and upon learning of it, they found accommodations fully booked and had to camp in emergency spots.
Locals encouraged the backpackers to support certain cyclists, mentioning an Italian named Marco Frigo and a Slovenian favorite, whom they agreed to back.
