EADaily, September 24, 2026 – The stunning rise in gas prices in Europe has made coal electricity production more profitable, but the EU has already shut down most of its capacity and will not be too flexible.
The sharp rise in natural gas prices pushes European utility companies back to the use of coal, analysts estimate that coal-based electricity production will increase by one quarter in the next six months, thus offsetting a similar decline in gas production in power plants, reports Reuters, reports Agerpres.
