Goa Nightclub Fire: Court Grants Bail to Luthra Brothers; to Remain Jailed in Second Case

The brothers were granted conditional bail in the fire case, but they remain jailed in a separate forgery case, lawyers said.

  • On Wednesday, a sessions court at Mapusa in Goa granted bail to brothers Saurabh Luthra and Gaurav Luthra, owners of the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub, in the case related to last December's fire that killed 25 people.
  • The Luthras will remain in jail, however, as Mapusa Police took them into custody on Monday in connection with alleged forgery of an NOC used to obtain an Excise Licence for the club.
  • After the December 2025 fire, the brothers fled to Thailand before their December 17 arrest by Anjuna Police, while co-owner Ajay Gupta received bail last month in the same culpable homicide case.
  • Police filed a charge sheet for alleged culpable homicide against 13 people, including the three owners, after investigators determined the nightclub lacked requisite permissions and violated safety-related rules.
  • The court remanded the duo to police custody for four days on Monday to investigate the forged documents, following rejection of their pre-arrest bail applications last week.
