Silverwood, Idaho’s largest theme park with over 70 rides and 500,000 annual visitors, is set to transition from the Norton family to Herschend after three decades of family ownership.
- On Wednesday, Silverwood Inc. and Herschend Family Entertainment Corporation signed an exclusive term sheet for Herschend to acquire Silverwood Theme Park, Athol, Idaho, the companies announced.
- The Norton family said Herschend was the only choice because they share values and a long-term approach; Herschend bills itself as the world's largest family-held themed-attractions company.
- Founded in 1988 by Gary Norton, Silverwood Theme Park spans 400 acres with more than 70 rides including seven coasters, signature Aftershock coaster, Boulder Beach water park, and the Emerald Forest addition opened last year.
- Terms remain undisclosed and the deal has not yet been completed, with Silverwood Inc. and Herschend beginning the due diligence process to finalize the transaction Wednesday.
- Herschend recently acquired Kennywood Amusement Park, Adventureland Resort and Lake Compounce, expanding its family-held portfolio while Paul Norton said `Silverwood has been our family's life's work for more than three decades`.
