Normal People and 1917 Favourites Star in First Look at New Sense and Sensibility Movie Adaptation
Focus Features released six first-look images and set the remake for theaters this fall, with Daisy Edgar-Jones leading an ensemble cast.
- Focus Features released the first official images of the new Sense and Sensibility film this morning, showcasing Daisy Edgar-Jones as Elinor Dashwood. Directed by Georgia Oakley, the production offers an early look at the Georgian-era England setting.
- Based on Jane Austen's 1811 novel, the story follows the three Dashwood sisters and their widowed mother as they leave their lavish Sussex estate for a modest cottage in Devonshire. The family faces contrasting journeys of love and loss.
- Working Title Films and Focus Features produced the adaptation with a screenplay by Diana Reid. The cast includes Esmé Creed-Miles as Marianne Dashwood, Caitríona Balfe as Mrs. Dashwood, and George MacKay as Edward Ferrars.
- Aiming for a 'lived-in and maybe even a little dirty' aesthetic, Oakley intends to move away from the traditional 'fetishization' of the era. The director stated she avoids pristine depictions to challenge how the period is typically portrayed.
- Scheduled to arrive in United Kingdom theaters on September 25, 2026, the film debuts in the United States on October 16, 2026. The project follows the successful 1995 adaptation, which grossed more than $134 million at the global box office.
