Heavy rain and flooding kill at least 62 in northern India

Rescue teams evacuated flooded communities as officials warned against travel through waterlogged areas and said more than 1,000 homes were destroyed.

  • On Tuesday, heavy rains in Nepal triggered fresh floods and landslides, hampering recovery efforts from August's disaster. The Gandak River reached a record 91.25 metres at Bagaha, damaging embankments in Bihar's West Champaran district.

  • Nepal Prime Minister Balendra Shah proposed a Himalayan Climate Resilience Mechanism led by Nepal, India and China to improve cross-border disaster forecasting. Shah said the Himalayas should become a "laboratory of international cooperation" for long-term resilience.
