United Bankshares receives regulatory approval for Piedmont Bancorp merger

United Bankshares Inc. announced Dec. 3, 2024, it had received all necessary regulatory approvals for its proposed merger with Piedmont Bancorp of Peachtree Corners, Georgia. United said it expects the merger to close in early 2025, when Piedmont will merge into United and Piedmont Bank will merge into United Bank, with United and United Bank being the surviving entities.
