A giant radio telescope near the Puerto Rican city of Arecibo has played a vital role in space research for more than half a century. American astronomers Russel Hulse and Joseph Taylor with his help in 1974 discovered a new type of pulsar, for which they received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1993.
