Hartzel appeal denied in elderly mother’s death

The Ninth District Court of Appeals has denied an appeal by a Port Arthur man who was sentenced to life in prison in the 2020 death of his mother.  Alan Hartzel, 52, appealed the conviction “contending that the evidence is insufficient to support his conviction.”  Justice Jay Wright affirmed the trial court’s judgement March 25.
