On June 22, 2024, Jennifer Harless filed a lawsuit against the City of Charleston, West Virginia, Charleston Police Department and former Charleston Police Chief James "Tyke" Hunt. Harless is suing the city, police department and Hunt on 11 different counts. She alleges her fourteenth amendment was violated. The complaint also said that defendants in the case violated the West Virginia Human Rights Act.
