Hannaford website, app restored after outage
The supermarket chain is offering rewards customers $10 off a $100 purchase after restoring online ordering, while third-party delivery services handled orders during the outage.
Giant Food Stores restored its website and mobile app on Tuesday morning, ending a week-long outage caused by a cyberattack targeting its parent company, Ahold Delhaize.
Ahold Delhaize detected a "security issue within its network" on October 12 and took systems offline as a precaution; the Netherlands-based company confirmed stores, pharmacies, and fuel stations remained open throughout the disruption.
The company stated there is "no evidence" that the cyberattack compromised customer information. To compensate, Giant is offering $20 off orders of $75 or more using code "welcome back 20" through Thursday.
During the outage, customers relied on third-party delivery services including Instacart, DoorDash, and Uber Eats to place orders. Customers with unfulfilled digital orders received refunds for the disruption.
Other Ahold Delhaize-owned supermarket chains, including Hannaford, Food Lion, and Stop & Shop, have also successfully restored their digital platforms. The company worked to assess the incident and limit its effects across its global portfolio.
