Hamilton knife attack puts four people in hospital
Police say a 23-year-old is in custody as four victims were hospitalized, including one critically injured, and investigators seek witnesses.
- On Saturday around 8:55pm, a 23-year-old man was arrested following a "large-scale incident" in Maeroa, Hamilton, that left four people hospitalized with suspected knife wounds.
- Police say one victim fled the assault on foot to a nearby property, where an occupant allegedly fired a gun. "It is alleged that a firearm was discharged," Sergeant Luke Thompson said.
- Four ambulances and two rapid response units transported the victims to Waikato hospital, where one remains in critical condition and three face "non-life threatening" injuries.
- The arrested man will face assault charges at Hamilton District Court on Monday, while Waikato Duty Inspector Karl Thornton confirmed an increased police presence will continue across Maeroa.
