GWR Named Among UK's Top Apprenticeship Employers
GWR supports more than 300 apprentices across 17 programmes after earning a place in the Government’s Top Apprenticeship Employers 2026 rankings.
- Great Western Railway earned a place in the Government's Top Apprenticeship Employers 2026 rankings, demonstrating its commitment to delivering outstanding training among more than 70,000 apprenticeship providers in England.
- Since launching in 2011 with just 15 apprentices, GWR has expanded to offer more than 17 programs, currently supporting more than 300 apprentices in diverse roles across its network.
- Earlier this year, GWR became the first train operator to achieve Platinum status in the Investors in People 'We Invest in Apprentices' accreditation, reflecting the dedication of teams and apprentices.
- Sophie Carter, a 22-year-old apprentice from Plymouth, won the Sir Andrew Haines Apprentice of the Year Award this year and later led a project during National Apprenticeship Week to run a train crewed entirely by apprentices.
