Curtis Mead Goes Deep Twice, Nationals Pound 6 Homers in a 10-2 Win over the Guardians
The Guardians bring an 8-2 record into a three-game set, while the Nationals have won nine of their last 11 games.
The Washington Nationals defeated the Cleveland Guardians 10-2 on Monday night in their first meeting of the season at Progressive Field, with Curtis Mead hitting two homers and Luis García Jr. nearly completing the cycle.
After averaging 2.3 runs over their previous four games, the Nationals entered the matchup 16-7 in May with nine wins in their last 11 games, though they have historically lost six of their last 10 against Cleveland.
James Wood's 412-foot leadoff homer on the sixth pitch sparked seven runs in the first three innings; Jacob Young and CJ Abrams also homered, with Abrams leading the Nats with 45 RBI and Wood with 13 home runs.
Tanner Bibee's three-inning start proved costly, surrendering eight hits, seven runs, and five homers, while Zack Littell dominated in relief with seven innings allowing one run and seven strikeouts; Rhys Hoskins and Ángel Martínez scored Cleveland's only runs.
The series continues tomorrow with RHP Cade Cavalli facing LHP Joey Cantillo, followed by RHP Gavin Williams versus RHP Miles Mikolas on Wednesday at 1:10 p.m., before Cleveland hosts Boston starting Friday.
