Like a majority of forecasters, INSEE forecasts a sluggish growth of 0.6% of GDP throughout the year, a prospect which is not conducive to the closure of the 2026 budget, marked by an effort of €40 billion.
The French economy is expected to experience a slowdown in 2025, with a growth rate of 0.6% and an unemployment rate of 7.7% at the end of the year.
"Lently, the euro area is emerging from its torpor, despite the reversal of world trade", with a revival of investment in particular, but "the French economy does not seem to evolve in line with the continent", the Institut national de la statistique points out in its economic note.
Economic growth is expected to run out of 0.6% in 2025, compared with 1.1% last year, according to an initial INSEE estimate. Unemployment is expected to rise to 7.7% at the end of the year.
