A demonstration by Defend Netherlands has caused unrest in Utrecht. The activist group was in the city to commemorate a French student who died earlier this month in a left-wing extremist attack. Counter-demonstrators disrupted the commemoration.

On Utrecht's Voorstraat, two groups of demonstrators faced off. The far-right activist group Defend Netherlands was supposed to commemorate French activist Quentin Deranque at the building of the left-wing political-cultural center ACU. An anti-fascist activist group of about a hundred people held a counter-demonstration there.

In the early evening, a group of 150 to 200 people gathered in Utrecht's city center to demonstrate against the far-right Defend Netherlands group. The group chanted slogans like "never again fascism." Police were present nearby.
