FAA Pauses Flights at Love Field, DFW Airport over Equipment Failure
Telecommunications outage at Dallas TRACON causes multi-hour flight delays and ground stops at two major North Texas airports, affecting numerous travelers today.
The FAA halted all inbound and outbound flights at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and Dallas Love Field on Friday afternoon due to a telecommunications equipment outage at Dallas TRACON.
The outage originated from a local telephone company equipment failure, prompting the FAA to impose ground stops and redirect some traffic to other airports as they investigate the cause.
By 2 p.m., over 273 flights at DFW and 69 at Love Field were delayed, with some delays exceeding seven hours and multiple cancellations reported, including 66 at DFW.
A controller communicated that no flights would be allowed to depart until a new system was established, highlighting the total loss of radar and communications that severely affected both airports during the outage.
The FAA is collaborating with the phone service provider to resolve system issues and urges passengers to verify flight status updates, cautioning that interruptions may persist until at least 5 p.m. or longer.
