Grindr set to host its first White House correspondents’ dinner party
The LGBTQ dating app will join the crowded WHCA weekend with an inaugural party for policymakers, journalists and community leaders.
- Grindr will host its inaugural "Weekend Party" in Washington's Georgetown neighborhood the night before the April 25 WHCA dinner, inviting policymakers, journalists, and LGBTQ leaders to toast the First Amendment.
- Joe Hack, Grindr's head of global government affairs, stated the company aims to advance advocacy for HIV funding, privacy, and online safety. "Nobody does connections like Grindr, and WHCD weekend is the most iconic place in the country to make them," Hack said.
- Grindr CEO George Arison previously stated the app aims to be a "place that is welcoming to everybody" regardless of political views, confirming a "significant spike in usage" during the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.
- President Trump plans to attend this year's gala at the Washington Hilton, shifting his approach after shunning the WHCA dinner throughout his first term and vowing to make it the "greatest" event ever.
- The convergence of Grindr's inaugural event and President Trump's attendance creates a politically charged atmosphere, concentrating advocacy opportunities for the LGBTQ community alongside journalists and policymakers during the correspondents' weekend.
