Green algae: justice orders state to step up control of nitrate pollution

The Rennes Administrative Court ordered the Prefect of Brittany to take measures to remedy the ecological damage caused by agricultural nitrates.

On Thursday 13 March, the administrative court of Rennes ordered the prefecture of the Brittany region to take "all useful measures" to remedy the ecological damage caused by nitrate pollution on the Breton coast.

The court assured that the persistence of the green tides was linked to measures "insufficient to combat the grounding of green algae on the Breton coast".

The State has once again been condemned for its failures in its policy to combat green algae.
