He co-founded the psychedelic rock band Grateful Dead in the 1960s. The musicians became famous with "Casey Jones" and "Touch of Grey." Now, guitarist Bob Weir has died at the age of 78.
His daughter Chloe Weir was in charge of spreading the news and indicated that he was diagnosed with cancer in July.
The 78-year-old musician died from lung problems underlying the cancer he had overcome. In the company of mythical Jerry Garcia, in the early 1960s he co-founded one of the key bands of American rock music.
By Emma Tucker, CNN - Bob Weir, a founding member of the iconic American rock group Grateful Dead, who seemingly never stopped touring for six decades, has died, according to a statement posted on his official website. The guitarist, vocalist, and storyteller "courageously" overcame cancer after being diagnosed in July, the statement said. He died "peacefully" surrounded by loved ones after succumbing to underlying lung issues, it added.
